Russia urges Armenia to refrain from ceasefire violations

Russia is concerned over the escalation of tension on the contact line of Azerbaijani and Armenian troops. The statement is redirected at Armenia without explicitly naming it.

Russian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Alexander Lukashevich made remarks at a traditional briefing on Thursday, APA’s Moscow correspondent reports.

He said ceasefire is constantly violated on the line of contact.

“As of March 1, ceasefire was violated again. Unfortunately, there are a number of losses. On March 5, the contact line of troops was monitored in the presence of special Representative of the OSCE Chairperson-in-Office Andrzej Kasprzyk. He will prepare a special report in this regard. I think it would be better to get detailed information about the current situation from the OSCE representatives who conducted the monitoring,” the spokesman noted.

Moreover, Lukashevich urged the conflicting parties to refrain from taking actions that would escalate the tension on the contact line and remain committed to a peaceful resolution of the conflict.

Note that Armenia continues to occupy internationally recognized territory of Azerbaijan against the UN Security Council resolutions and other decisions of international organizations. Recently, Armenian troops have intensified ceasefire violations. According to Azerbaijan’s Defense Ministry, Armenian Armed Forces violated ceasefire 33 times in various directions of the frontline within a day on March 5.
