Palestine not planning to open embassy in Armenia

Baku, Azerbaijan, Aug. 25

Trend:

There is no plan to open an embassy of Palestine in Armenia in the near future, Palestine’s Embassy in Azerbaijan said in a message.

The note was sent to Azerbaijan’s Foreign Ministry with regard to a statement made by Palestine’s ambassador in the Great Britain, who is of Armenian descent, regarding the opening of an embassy in Armenia, the head of the press service of Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry, Hikmet Hajiyev told Trend August 25.

According to the message, upon the publishing of this information by Armenian news agencies and some Azerbaijani news portals, the Palestinian Embassy in Baku contacted the Presidential Administration and the Foreign Ministry of Palestine, said Hajiyev.

He said both structures stated that this information is false, and Palestine doesn’t intend to open an embassy in Yerevan.

“Given that the Armenian media, aiming to harm the foreign policy, defense and security of Azerbaijan, in many cases deliberately spread disinformation and information of provocative nature, the Foreign Ministry recommends some local media outlets to refuse to distribute such information without specifying and verifying its authenticity,” said Hajiyev.
