Islamabad, September 15, AZERTAC
The Standing Committee on Defence at the Senate of Pakistan has released a statement strongly condemning the so-called elections held in Azerbaijan`s Nagorno-Karabakh region, which is now under Armenian occupation.
Signed by chairman of the committee Senator Mushahid Hussain Sayed, the statement says: “The Pakistan Senate Defence Committee strongly condemns the so-called “elections” to the “self-governing bodies: of the puppet separatist regime in the occupied territories of the Republic of Azerbaijan held on 13 September 2015.”
“It is well known that Armenia unleashed the war and used force against Azerbaijan, occupied almost one fifth of its territory, including the Nagorno-Karabakh region and seven adjacent districts, carried out ethnic cleansing of the seized areas by expelling about one million Azerbaijanis from their homes and committed other serious crimes during the conflict.”
It says: “The holding of the so-called “elections” is a clear cut breach of the international law and a blow to the peace negotiations. It is another attempt of Armenian side to legitimize occupation of Azerbaijani territories and a vivid manifestation of the fact that this country is not genuinely interested in seeking a political settlement of the armed conflict and, instead, pursues the path of provocation and escalation.”
“The committee believes that the only way to achieve a durable and lasting conflict settlement is to ensure implementation of resolutions of the UN Security Council and the UN General Assembly on immediate, complete and unconditional withdrawal of all Armenian forces from all the occupied territories of Azerbaijan,” the statement concludes.
