OIC demands from Armenia to withdraw its troops from Azerbaijani lands

The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) has demanded from Armenia to withdraw its troops from Azerbaijan’s occupied lands, Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry said.

The resolution adopted following the 42nd session of the foreign ministers of OIC member states, condemns the continuing Armenian aggression against Azerbaijan and demands from this country to fulfill the resolutions of UN Security Council on Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.

The document also recognizes Azerbaijan’s right to demand compensation from Armenia for the damage during the conflict.

Furthermore, the resolution urges other countries not to sell weapons to Armenia and prevent the transit of weapons to Armenia through their territories.

OIC condemned the destruction of the historical, cultural and religious monuments on Azerbaijan’s occupied territories by Armenia.

Moreover, OIC adopted a final declaration that emphasizes respect for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Azerbaijan.

The conflict between the two South Caucasus countries began in 1988 when Armenia made territorial claims against Azerbaijan. As a result of the ensuing war, in 1992 Armenian armed forces occupied 20 percent of Azerbaijan, including the Nagorno-Karabakh region and seven surrounding districts.

The two countries signed a ceasefire agreement in 1994. The co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group, Russia, France and the US are currently holding peace negotiations.

Armenia has not yet implemented the UN Security Council’s four resolutions on the liberation of the Nagorno-Karabakh and the surrounding regions.
