Baku, Azerbaijan, Oct. 2
By Seba Aghayeva – Trend:
Georgia doesn’t maintain contacts with the separatist regime of Nagorno-Karabakh, the Georgian Embassy in Azerbaijan told Trend Oct. 2.
Earlier, Armenian media reported that members of the Georgian Nurses Association allegedly visited Nagorno-Karabakh, and met there the head of the separatist regime in the occupied Azerbaijani region.
“Everyone knows how pressing the territorial integrity issue is for Georgia, and Tbilisi’s stance on the issue of Azerbaijan’s territorial integrity is clear as well,” the embassy told Trend.
The embassy also said a delegation of the Georgian Nurses Association took part in an international conference in Yerevan, but they didn’t make any visits to Nagorno-Karabakh, and, moreover, they had no meetings with the separatist regime’s authorities.
The conflict between the two South Caucasus countries began in 1988 when Armenia made territorial claims against Azerbaijan. As a result of the ensuing war, in 1992 Armenian armed forces occupied 20 percent of Azerbaijan, including the Nagorno-Karabakh region and seven surrounding districts.
The two countries signed a ceasefire agreement in 1994. The co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group, Russia, France and the US are currently holding peace negotiations.
Armenia has not yet implemented the UN Security Council’s four resolutions on the liberation of the Nagorno-Karabakh and the surrounding regions.
