Azerbaijani diaspora in Australia actively works to develop relations between the two countries, a representative of the Azerbaijani diaspora in Australia Aydan Rzayeva told Trend.
“We were able to establish relations with politicians and parliament of Australia,” she said. “In addition, Azerbaijan-Australia friendship group in Western Australia headed by John Hammond, the well-known lawyer in the country. There are the Australians in this group, who are eager to assist Azerbaijan.”
Rzayeva said that the diaspora actively works to promote Azerbaijan in Australia.
“We hold special events to introduce our country to the Australian population, distribute special brochures,” said the representative of the diaspora. “Little is known about Azerbaijan in Australia, but we do our best to change that.”
Rzayeva went on to add that all Azerbaijanis in Australia need to join efforts for the promotion of Azerbaijan and work for it.
"We have few representatives,” she said. “But we were able to create a rather active diaspora in Western Australia. I think that it will be effective.”
The Australia-Azerbaijan group was established in the Federal Parliament of Australia in 2015. Luke Simpkins from the Liberal Party, included in the ruling coalition, was elected as the chairman of the group. Alan Griffin, the representative of the Labor Party of Australia, became the deputy chairman of the group.
The group includes the members of the Australian Labor Party – Anthony Albanese, Laurie Ferguson, Michael Danby, Claire Moore, Warren Snowdon, Maria Vamvakinou, the member of the National Party, included in the ruling coalition, John Cobb and others.
The activity of the Australia-Azerbaijan parliamentary group as a partner of the similar working group on interparliamentary relations, established in the Azerbaijani parliament, helps contribute to the joint work on expanding the cooperation between the two countries in political, economic and cultural spheres.
