British Foreign Office: Official London doesn`t recognize a regime created in the Nagorno-Karabakh and this stance will remain unchanged

Baku, July 2, AZERTAC

The British Foreign and Commonwealth Office has said official London doesn`t recognize a regime created in the Nagorno-Karabakh and this stance will remain unchanged.

In a letter sent to Azerbaijan`s Ministry of Foreign Affairs in response to official Baku`s request concerning the visit of Bako Saakyan, head of the separatist regime in the Nagorno-Karabakh, to the UK, the Office said it supports Azerbaijan`s sovereignty, territorial integrity and independence.

The Office said the visit of Bako Saakyan was not organized by the British government, and that he will not have any meeting with any British government official during the visit.

Meanwhile British Ambassador to Azerbaijan Irfan Siddiq was summoned to Azerbaijan`s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, where deputy FM Khalaf Khalafov expressed the Azerbaijani government`s discontent with and concern over the planned visit Bako Saakyan to the UK, where he is expected to attend an event at Chatham House, the Royal Institute of International Affairs.

“Such cases contradict the nature of the friendly and strategic relations between Azerbaijan and Great Britain,” Khalafov told the British Ambassador, describing it as “a step against Azerbaijan`s sovereignty and territorial integrity”.
