Baku, March 9, AZERTAC

“Under the renewed Madrid principles and relevant resolutions of the UN Security Council, the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairs must urge the Armenian armed forces to withdraw from the occupied Azerbaijani territories,” said spokesman for Azerbaijan`s Foreign Ministry Hikmat Hajiyev. He commented on the Armenian FM Edward Nalbandian`s recent interview with Kommersant newspaper. “The essence and content of the process of settling the Armenian-Azerbaijani Nagorno-Karabakh conflict were again misinterpreted by the Armenian foreign minister. It seems like Edward Nalbandian lacks information about the process of negotiations.”

“The Armenian Minister of Foreign Affairs claims that official Yerevan is committed to the settlement of the conflict with the mediation of the OSCE Minsk group co-chairs. But he never had courage to refer to the renewed Madrid principles. And it`s no coincidence.”

Hajiyev said: “We would like to remind the Armenian FM that the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairs have presented the renewed Madrid principles consisting of six clauses. The first clause of the Madrid principles, which play the role of a roadmap for a stage-by-stage resolution of the conflict, demands the withdrawal of the Armenian army from the occupied territories.”

“Instead of making banal statements and focusing on technical issues of secondary importance, the Armenian Foreign Minister would be better clarifying the issue of the withdrawal of the Armenian armed forces from Azerbaijan`s occupied lands according to relevant resolutions of the UN Security Council and the renewed Madrid principles,” Hajiyev added.
