Azerbaijani embassies’ websites subjected to Armenia’s cyber terrorist attacks

The websites of the Azerbaijani embassies in the Netherlands, Belgium and Qatar were subjected to Armenia’s cyber terrorist attacks Sept. 5, Hikmet Hajiyev, spokesman for the Azerbaijani foreign ministry, told Trend Sept. 6.

He said that in a short period the activity of the websites was restored.
“The Armenian side regularly carries out cyber terrorist attacks on Internet resources of Azerbaijan, including the websites of the country’s diplomatic missions abroad,” he said.

“Armenia is trying to "compensate" its failures by deliberately aggravating the situation on the contact line, suffering human losses during unsuccessful provocations and carrying out the cyber terrorist attacks,” he said.

“Armenia’s terrorist attacks on the websites of the Azerbaijani embassies are also the cyber terrorist attacks on Internet resources of foreign countries with servers,” he said.

The conflict between the two South Caucasus countries began in 1988 when Armenia made territorial claims against Azerbaijan. As a result of the ensuing war, in 1992 Armenian armed forces occupied 20 percent of Azerbaijan, including the Nagorno-Karabakh region and seven surrounding districts.

The two countries signed a ceasefire agreement in 1994. The co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group, Russia, France and the US are currently holding peace negotiations. Armenia has not yet implemented the UN Security Council’s four resolutions on the liberation of the Nagorno-Karabakh and the surrounding regions.
