Azerbaijan won’t participate in NATO PA workshop in Armenia

Azerbaijan won’t participate in the Rose-Roth workshop of NATO Parliamentary Assembly to be held June 18-20 in Armenia, first deputy speaker of Azerbaijani parliament Ziyafat Asgarov told Trend May 22.

As long as Armenia is not condemned as an aggressor country, Armenian troops are not withdrawn from Azerbaijan’s occupied territories, Azerbaijan won’t participate in the events held in Armenia, he said.

Asgarov added that the Azerbaijani side has informed NATO PA head about its refusal to participate in the workshop and it was noted that holding of a workshop in the occupier country doesn’t increase NATO’s influence.

The conflict between the two South Caucasus countries began in 1988 when Armenia made territorial claims against Azerbaijan. As a result of the ensuing war, in 1992 Armenian armed forces occupied 20 percent of Azerbaijan, including the Nagorno-Karabakh region and seven surrounding districts.
