Australian parliament delegation to observe Azerbaijani election

A delegation of Australian parliament, visiting Azerbaijan to observe the parliamentary election, had a meeting Oct. 28 with Mazahir Panahov, the chairman of the Central Election Commission (CEC).

Welcoming the delegation, Panahov expressed his satisfaction with the meeting with parliamentarians on the eve of parliamentary election, the CEC secretariat’s media relations department told Trend.

Panahov spoke about CEC’s relations with reputable international organizations and noted that international practice played an important role in further improvement of the election.

Expressing gratitude for warm reception, head of the delegation Luke Simpkins and members of the Australian parliament familiarized themselves with the electoral system and electoral law of Azerbaijan, as well as with the work done in connection with the upcoming election.

Answering the questions of the guests, the CEC Chairman Mazahir Panahov gave detailed information on large-scale projects carried out to hold free, fair and transparent elections.

Then, the MPs got aquatinted with the activity of the CEC regarding the parliamentary election, and familiarized themselves with the last preparatory works on different projects.

They also exchanged views on issues of mutual interest.
