Azerbaijan’s Defense Ministry released another video with Armenian serviceman Andranik Grigoryan on Apr.1.
It should be noted that Grigoryan voluntarily crossed the contact line and was taken by the Azerbaijani side on March 22.
In this video, the Armenian serviceman said that he was born in the village of Berdashen of Martunin district in 1991. He was called up for military service on a contract basis in 2012 and surrendered to Azerbaijani side on March 22, 2015.
Grigoryan said that in Nagorno-Karabakh he felt bad because of ill-treatment and therefore surrendered to the Azerbaijani side.
“I urge all the servicemen to surrender to the Azerbaijani side, since I witnessed how the servicemen are treated in Azerbaijan,” said the Armenian serviceman.
Azerbaijanis do not want war, however, they defend themselves well, while the Armenian leadership deceives its people by sending it to die for its own interests, he said. “I’m tired of pointless fighting and don’t want to die.”
Grigoryan added that he is provided with food and clothing in Azerbaijan. “I feel very good here.”
The conflict between the two South Caucasus countries began in 1988 when Armenia made territorial claims against Azerbaijan. As a result of the ensuing war, in 1992 Armenian armed forces occupied 20 percent of Azerbaijan, including the Nagorno-Karabakh region and seven surrounding districts.
The two countries signed a ceasefire agreement in 1994. The co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group, Russia, France and the US are currently holding peace negotiations. Armenia has not yet implemented the UN Security Council’s four resolutions on the liberation of the Nagorno-Karabakh and the surrounding regions.
