Armenian military shells Azerbaijani positions, violates ceasefire over 110 times

Over the past 24 hours, Armenian military, using mortars and large-caliber machine guns, 118 times violated ceasefire on various parts of contact line of Azerbaijani and Armenian troops, said Azerbaijani Defense Ministry Sept. 1.

Armenian military stationed on nameless heights and in the Paravakar village of Ijevan district, the Dovegh, Barekamavan, Voskevan villages of Noyemberyan district of Armenia opened fire at Azerbaijani army positions located in the Kohnegishlag village of Aghstafa district, the Kemerli, Gaymagli, Gushchu villages of Ayrim district and on the nameless heights in Gazakh district of Azerbaijan.

Aside from that, Armenians stationed in the Chinari village of Armenia’s Berd district opened fired at Azerbaijani positions in the Kokhanebi and Aghbulag villages of Tovuz district.

Armenian military also opened fire from positions in the Jil village and on nameless heights in Armenia’s Krasnoselsk district at Azerbaijani positions on nameless heights of Azerbaijan’s Gadabay district.

Azerbaijani military positions were also fired at by Armenians stationed near the Tapgaragoyunlu and Gulustan villages of Goranboy district, the Goyarkh, Yarimja, Gizil Oba villages of Terter district, the Yusifjanli, Shuraabad, Marzili, Garagashli, Kangarli, Nemirli, Novruzlu villages of Aghdam district, the Kuropatkino village of Khojavand district, the Ashagi Abdurrahmanli, Ashagi Seyidahmadli, Gorgan villages of Fizuli district and the Mehdili village of Jabrail district.

Armenians were also firing from positions on nameless heights in the Goy-Gol, Goranboy, Khojavand, Fuzuli and Jabrail districts.

The opposing side was silenced with return fire.

The conflict between the two South Caucasus countries began in 1988 when Armenia made territorial claims against Azerbaijan. As a result of the ensuing war, in 1992 Armenian armed forces occupied 20 percent of Azerbaijan, including the Nagorno-Karabakh region and seven surrounding districts.

The two countries signed a ceasefire agreement in 1994. The co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group, Russia, France and the US are currently holding peace negotiations. Armenia has not yet implemented the UN Security Council’s four resolutions on the liberation of the Nagorno-Karabakh and the surrounding regions.
