Over the past 24 hours, Armenian military 70 times violated ceasefire on various parts of contact line between Azerbaijani and Armenian troops.
The 60-mm and 82-mm mortars were used by Armenians to violate the ceasefire, said Azerbaijan’s Defense Ministry Oct. 4.
Azerbaijani military came under Armenian fire from positions in Tapgaragoyunlu, village of Goranboy district, the Chilaburt, Goyarkh villages of Terter district, the Novruzlu, Sarijali, Kengerli, Shikhlar, Yusifjanli, Merzili villages of Agdam district, Kuropatkino of Khojavend, Horadiz, Gorgan, Garakhanbayli, Ashagi Seyidahmadli, Ashagi Abdurrahmanli, Ashagi Veyselli of Fizuli and Mehdili of Jabrayil districts,
Armenians were also firing from positions on nameless heights in the Goygol, Goranboy, Khojavend, Fizuli and Jabrayil districts.
In view of the operational situation, the Azerbaijani armed forces inflicted 76 strikes on enemy positions.
The conflict between the two South Caucasus countries began in 1988 when Armenia made territorial claims against Azerbaijan. As a result of the ensuing war, in 1992 Armenian armed forces occupied 20 percent of Azerbaijan, including the Nagorno-Karabakh region and seven surrounding districts.
The two countries signed a ceasefire agreement in 1994. The co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group, Russia, France and the US are currently holding peace negotiations.
Armenia has not yet implemented the UN Security Council’s four resolutions on the liberation of the Nagorno-Karabakh and the surrounding regions.
