Armenian Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandian’s speech at the OSCE Ministerial Council is based on the false and distorted information, spokesman for the Azerbaijani foreign ministry Hikmat Hajiyev told Trend Dec. 4.
“Moreover, it is far from reality,” he said.
“This speech consisted of groundless claims,” he said. “There was no positive moment, which could serve the purpose of promoting the negotiations held with the mediation of the OSCE Minsk Group.”
"At the same time, the Armenian side resorted to the diversions along the line of contact,” he said. “As a result of this irresponsible action, it suffered huge losses. This testifies to Armenia’s purposes."
Nalbandian again accused Azerbaijan at a meeting of the OSCE Ministerial Council in Belgrade.
The conflict between the two South Caucasus countries began in 1988 when Armenia made territorial claims against Azerbaijan. As a result of the ensuing war, in 1992 Armenian armed forces occupied 20 percent of Azerbaijan, including the Nagorno-Karabakh region and seven surrounding districts.
The two countries signed a ceasefire agreement in 1994. The co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group, Russia, France and the US are currently holding peace negotiations.
Armenia has not yet implemented the UN Security Council’s four resolutions on the liberation of the Nagorno-Karabakh and the surrounding regions.
