Armenian army fires at Azerbaijani soldiers; violates ceasefire 103 times

Over the past 24 hours, Armenian military 103 times violated ceasefire on various parts of contact line of Azerbaijani and Armenian troops, said the Defense Ministry of Azerbaijan Nov. 7.

The ministry said that Azerbaijani positions in the Gizilhajili and Kemerli villages of Gazakh district were fired upon by Armenians stationed in the Berkaber village of Ijevan district and the Dovegh village of Noyemberyan district of Armenia.

Azerbaijani army position were also fired upon from positions near the occupied Talish, Gulustan villages of Goranboy district, the Yarimja, Chilyaburt villages of Terter district, the Shikhlar, Javahirli, Kangarli, Sarijali, Novruzlu, Shuraabad, Garagashli, Marzili, Yusifjanli villages of Agdam district, the Kuropatkino village of Khojavand district, the Horadiz, Garakhanbeyli, Gorgan, Ashagi Seyidahmadli villages of Fizuli district, and the Mehdili village of Jabrail district.

Armenians were also firing from nameless heights in the Goy-Gol, Khojavand, Fuzuli and Jabrail districts.

In view of operational situation, Azerbaijani armed forces inflicted 109 strikes on enemy positions.

The conflict between the two South Caucasus countries began in 1988 when Armenia made territorial claims against Azerbaijan. As a result of the ensuing war, in 1992 Armenian armed forces occupied 20 percent of Azerbaijan, including the Nagorno-Karabakh region and seven surrounding districts.

The two countries signed a ceasefire agreement in 1994. The co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group, Russia, France and the US are currently holding peace negotiations.

Armenia has not yet implemented the UN Security Council’s four resolutions on the liberation of the Nagorno-Karabakh and the surrounding regions.
