Armenian army fires at Azerbaijani positions; breaks ceasefire 101 times

Over the past 24 hours, Armenian armed forces 101 times broke ceasefire with Azerbaijan on various parts of the contact line between Azerbaijani and Armenian troops, said Azerbaijani Defense Ministry Feb. 6.

Azerbaijani positions located in the Aghdam village of Tovuz district and Kohnegishlag village of the Aghstafa district underwent fire from Paravakar village of Ijevan district and Mosesgeh village of Berd district, and from nameless heights in these districts.

Azerbaijani positions also underwent fire from the positions located near Talish, Gulustan villages of the Goranboy district, Goyarkh, Chilaburt villages of the Terter district, Shikhlar, Novruzlu, Javahirli, Kangarli, Sarijali, Shuraabad, Yusifjanli, Namirli villages of the Aghdam district, Kuropatkino village of the Khojavand district, Horadiz, Garakhanbeyli, Gorgan, Ashagi Seyidahmadli villages of the Fizuli district and Mehdili village of the Jabrayil district.

Armenians also violated ceasefire from positions located on nameless heights in the Goygol, Goranboy, Khojavand, Fizuli and Jabrayil districts.

Azerbaijani armed forces inflicted 102 strikes on enemy positions.

The conflict between the two South Caucasus countries began in 1988 when Armenia made territorial claims against Azerbaijan. As a result of the ensuing war, in 1992 Armenian armed forces occupied 20 percent of Azerbaijan, including the Nagorno-Karabakh region and seven surrounding districts.

The two countries signed a ceasefire agreement in 1994. The co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group, Russia, France and the US are currently holding peace negotiations.

Armenia has not yet implemented the UN Security Council’s four resolutions on the liberation of the Nagorno-Karabakh and the surrounding regions.
