Armenian armed forces suffer heavy losses

Armenian armed forces have suffered many losses as a result of the strikes carried out by the Azerbaijani army during the military clashes, Azerbaijani Defense Ministry said Oct.10.

Up to six Armenian servicemen have been killed and many got injured as a result of the battles, said the ministry.

Heavy battles took place on the contact line of Azerbaijani and Armenian armies on Oct.9, according to Azerbaijan’s Defense Ministry.

Moreover, one serviceman of Azerbaijani armed forces got injured as a result of the battles.

Azerbaijan armed forces’ units fully control the operational situation on the frontline.

The conflict between the two South Caucasus countries began in 1988 when Armenia made territorial claims against Azerbaijan. As a result of the ensuing war, in 1992 Armenian armed forces occupied 20 percent of Azerbaijan, including the Nagorno-Karabakh region and seven surrounding districts.

The two countries signed a ceasefire agreement in 1994. The co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group, Russia, France and the US are currently holding peace negotiations.

Armenia has not yet implemented the UN Security Council’s four resolutions on the liberation of the Nagorno-Karabakh and the surrounding regions.
